Street Party 2016 / 1926

Saturday June 11th 2016
The Redehelde 1926 Street Party

We will be holding our biennial Street Party to celebrate all things good about our local community, and this year the Queen has shamelessly muscled in on the act by organising her 90th birthday celebrations for the same weekend. So our theme this year is 1926. Come dressed up as someone / something to do with 1926 (or the 1920s in general) such as Erwin Schrödinger (remember his cat?), Giacomo Puccini (Turandot premiere), a miner (1926 – the year of the general strike), a set of traffic lights (first traffic lights at Piccadilly Circus), a character from Winnie The Pooh (published in 1926)? Or maybe one of these…

We will be closing the top of Upper Bridge Road and starting from 13:00. You are invited to bring food to share, your own drinks and your friends, neighbours and family. We will provide tables and chairs and shelter in the event of baking hot sunshine, or rain.
We have a local band playing (Junkyard Rocket – blues, rock and covers), a couple of fabulous singers, and a number of other local musically gifted artists.  We have also organised a Charleston dance class for anyone who enjoys dancing and a good laugh  (some of you will remember the hilarious  Zumba session last time – we now understand the difference between Zumba and Samba 🙂 ).
We will be providing a bouncy castle, a DIY face-painting kit and dressing up items, table tennis, football targets and goal, netball, darts, lucky dip (presents needed – can you provide any?), tea, coffee, scones,  barbecue food and local beer, pass the parcel,  a TV for the football at 8pm (England V Russia – Group B – Euro 2016) and crucially – toilets!
And if you can bake – bake a cake (with a theme of the 1920s for extra points) and enter the cake competition.
It should be great fun. Please come along, and if you can help set things up or provide some service please get in touch. We need volunteers to help man the bar, the barbecue and the bouncy castle.

Redehelde Curry Night @ Everest Spice – Street Party 2016 Fundraiser

Wednesday, April 27 2016 at 7:30 PM

It’s going to be a blinder. We’re supporting a local business, we’re supporting our digestive systems, and we’re raising money to put towards the 2016 street party. There will be a charge of £17 per person which will include a mixture of starters, three main courses and side dishes including nan bread. £5 of the £17 will go toward Redehelde funds.
We will also be holding a raffle, so please have a think and see if you can provide something (a thing or a skill) which we can raffle on the night.
We will need to pay Everest Spice a couple of weeks before the actual night, so if you would like to come please email chair@[delete-this-bit]redehelde.org.uk or contact one of the committee members. You will also need to hand over the £17 per person by leaving an envelope (with the funds in!) at the Deli on the Hill. Please write your names, address and email address on the envelope. If you can provide something to raffle, again please let me know in advance.
The feedback so far suggests this will be a very popular night so please book early to make sure you don’t miss out.

Table Top Sale

Sunday, May 22 2016 from 11:00 to 13:00

Clear out your cellars, garages and attics (again!), bake some cakes and rent a table top from Redehelde for £5 (to go towards the 2016 Street Party fighting fund). You can sell anything you like and if nothing else it’s a great place for a chat!
Or else come along and snap up a few bargains, have a cup of tea and buy a cake or two. Bring friends and family and pass the word on. Rather than have the tables spread out across all three roads we thought we would bring everyone together in one place this time, probably in the sunshine… If you would like to rent a table please get in touch by  emailing chair@[delete-this-bit]redehelde.org.uk or contacting one of the committee members.
